Nonna van der Merwe is
16 years old
and started gymnastics
at the age of 5 in 1997. She is
currently in Level 10.
Nonna says: “I am
committed to become a good judge and coach and give back to the sport as much
as I can,
since I have benefited immensely
from the sport. I hope to help the sport grow in

No, if I have to choose it will be the floor – the dance elements; and I love
uneven bars.
Her
role model? Initially Nadia Commaneci,
but also my coach Juliana Simonfi.
Her highest
achievement until now was to participating in the African Championships 2006 in
My greatest upset was being chosen for the All
African Games in 2007 and falling ill before I could compete.
Nonna also does athletics. She attends Delta Secondary School Windhoek and
has just completed her Grade 10 exams
